Roundtable with Minister Xie Feng



On May 6, 2008, Minister Xie Feng, the Deputy Chief of Mission of China's Embassy to the United States participated in a roundtable discussion at The Nixon Center to discuss U.S.-China relations. Drew Thompson, Nixon Center Director of China Studies and Starr Senior Fellow, moderated the discussion.  A link to a summary of the event can be found here.

Climate Change: Can It Be Stopped?



On April 30, The Nixon Center hosted a panel discussion on strategies to combat climate change.  Speakers included Juliet Eilperin (left), a Staff Writer with The Washington Post, Raymond J. Kopp (center right), Senior Fellow and Director of the Climate and Technology Policy Program at Resources for the Future, and Vaughan Turekian (right), Chief International Officer of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Lew Watts (center left), President and Chief Executive Officer of PFC Energy, moderated the discussion.  Here is a summary of the event.

U.S.-Russian Relations in a Time of Transitions



On April 28, The Nixon Center hosted a day-long unofficial U.S.-Russian dialogue with advisors to incoming Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, including Gleb Pavlovsky, President of the Fund for Effective Politics; Alexei Puskov, Anchor and Host of Center-TV's news analysis program "Post Scriptum"; and Igor Yurgens, Chairman of the new Institute for Contemporary Development established to advise the Kremlin.  The group discussed the leadership transitions underway in America and Russia and their possible impact on both countries' foreign policies and the U.S.-Russian relationship with U.S. policy and opinion leaders, including journalists, former officials, advisors to the American presidential campaigns, business representatives, and senior U.S. officials.  The Russian group met separately with John Negroponte, the Deputy Secretary of State; Paula Dobriansky, the Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs; and members of the Senate and House of Representatives.  Here is a summary of the Center’s event.
