Nikolas K. Gvosdev

Nikolas K. Gvosdev is a Senior Fellow in Strategic Studies at The Nixon Center. He is also the executive editor of The National Interest and editor of its online weekly In the National Interest (http://www.inthenationalinterest.com). He has a background in Eurasian and Balkan affairs, with an especial interest in how the historical, cultural, and religious inheritance of the region affects current political and economic developments.

He is the author of several books, including the well-received Imperial Policy and Perspectives Towards Georgia, 1762-1819 (a study of Russian imperial expansion in the Caucasus) and was a co-editor and contributor to Civil Society and the Search for Justice in Russia as well as an editor and contributor for Russia in The National Interest

He has been a frequent commentator on topics related to a wide variety of foreign policy issues, Russian and Eurasian affairs, and matters of religion and culture.  His articles and essays have appeared in outlets including The National Interest, The Los Angeles Times, Orbis, The Washington Quarterly, Newsday, Problems of Post-Communism, National Review Online, and World Policy Journal.

Dr. Gvosdev holds degrees from Oxford University and Georgetown University.
